Full guide
What to check before you call
Safe observations first. Stop if anything involves smoke, gas, water near electricity, or a panel you would need to remove.
06 sections
When an ASKO dishwasher leaves water behind, the first checks are the accessible filter, the drain hose route, and any disposer connection, because those can explain standing water without a failed pump. If the filter is clean and the hose is clear but the water remains, or a code stays on the display, stop and book a diagnosis.
Water left sitting in the dishwasher is a worry, and a symptom alone cannot tell you which part has failed. Start with observations that are safe and repeatable, and keep them for when you arrange an ASKO service visit.
Owner care is one category; work needing testing or dismantling is another. Never get around a door lock, a safety switch, or a displayed message to keep the dishwasher in service. A few notes written now help the diagnosis run faster and more accurately.
Start with the simple conditions
If a cycle is still running, cancel it and give the tub a moment to settle, then follow the manual to take out the accessible filter and rinse it. Do this with the dishwasher in its installed position, and never force panels, fittings, or controls. When a simple step changes the result, run one ordinary cycle before drawing a conclusion.
Sometimes a drain complaint has nothing to do with the pump: a bend in the hose within reach, or a food waste disposer hooked up recently, is enough. Notice when it happens too, whether on each load, only with certain ones, or late in a long run. That detail says more than cycling the dishwasher again and again.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Safe check |
|---|---|---|
| Standing water once the cycle ends | Debris clogging the filter | Take out and rinse the filter |
| Water leaves sluggishly | A hose that is pinched | Inspect the hose where you can reach it |
| A code tied to draining | An obstruction or a failing pump | Note the code before clearing it |
What should you check when an ASKO dishwasher will not drain?
The cleaning guide lists a short sequence for a unit that does not drain: check and clean the filters and verify the drain line is not clogged. Its filter steps are to remove the lower rack, turn the filter basket handle counterclockwise to remove it, and lift the handle to separate it from the fine filter, then wash all components with soap and water and reinstall them. It recommends cleaning filters at least once a year, with heavy use needing more.
The guide also gives a manual drain by pressing and holding Start/Stop for three seconds. Water above the filters is one of its listed quick fixes, with the remedy of cleaning the interior and filters. These are all manual-documented steps outside the machine.
Safe checks that protect the appliance
Look to the use-and-care manual for your model’s controls, where the filter sits, and how often to maintain it. Clean only what it gives to owners, choose the products it recommends, and refit every removable piece the way it was designed to go.
Prior to another cycle, remove obstructions, take out part of an unusually heavy load, and be sure the water supply and door clearance are unimpeded. Skip repeated resets, which may conceal an intermittent fault and leave water or pressure sitting where it should not.
- Write down any message or error code on the display before it is cleared.
- Look over the hoses, seals, and plugs that are in view, without disturbing an electrical connection.
- Try one controlled drain test, not several rapid ones.
Safe to try
- Rinse out the filter
- Follow the path of the hose you can see
- Copy down the error code
Leave to a technician
- Reaching into the pump
- Unhooking wiring
- Running forced drain cycles again and again
Know when the symptom needs diagnosis
Once the basic checks leave the symptom unchanged, owner care is finished. The drain pump, motors, heater circuits, internal wiring, gas fittings, refrigerant tubing, and control boards need suitable instruments and a technician who can confirm the repair is safe.
Book service quickly if the problem is getting worse, a breaker trips, water leaks toward electrical parts, you smell something scorched, a new grinding noise starts, or a cycle cannot be completed. When a safety warning is showing, stop using the dishwasher.
How should the dishwasher drain hose be routed?
The installation instructions for one ASKO dishwasher series set limits on the drain hose. A hose connected to a sink trap nipple needs an internal diameter of at least half an inch and must not be kinked, no part of it should sit more than 37 3/8 inches above the bottom of the dishwasher, and it can be extended within a stated total length. A kink or an over-long, over-high run can slow draining without anything being wrong with the machine.
The guide also says cleaning the food waste disposer connected to the dishwasher reduces odors, and a disposer that has just been installed can leave a plug in the drain connection. A built-in unit also needs an air gap under the countertop, which is one more thing a recent installation can get wrong.
A code or a pump that keeps running
For a display code such as F4, the guide says to write the code down, press and hold Start/Stop for five seconds to reset, and contact service if it returns. It also says that if the drain pump runs continuously you should turn off power and water to the unit and contact customer care.
What to tell the technician
Tell the technician the model number, the exact symptom, when it started, what cycle and options were selected, and how the safe checks turned out. A photo of any code or a short description of a sound can help; never remove a cover to get either.
Close observation will not repair anything, but it is a sound first move. Work through the simple conditions, hold on to any error details the display gave you, and leave sealed-system, gas, electrical, and internal mechanical jobs for a qualified ASKO technician.
Quick questions
How do I drain an ASKO dishwasher manually?
The cleaning guide says to press and hold Start/Stop for three seconds. If the water does not clear, check the filters and the drain line.
Why is there water above the filters?
The guide lists cleaning the interior and filters as the remedy for water above the filters. A hose problem could also be involved.
Can a disposer cause standing water?
It can. A new disposer connection or a clogged disposer can restrict the dishwasher drain, so check that before suspecting the pump.

Official manuals and support notes are available on ASKO Support.
Keep the full model number written down when parts are ordered, because revised boards and sensors can alter the right part number.
Cutting power one time can clear a passing fault, but a code that keeps coming back indicates a physical cause that remains.
Keep the filter clean and the hoses clear between visits; a restriction can imitate an electrical or sensor failure.
Water around electrical parts, a burning smell, or sparking calls for stopping the dishwasher and arranging a professional inspection.
