What to check before you call
Safe observations first. Stop if anything involves smoke, gas, water near electricity, or a panel you would need to remove.

When an ASKO dryer seems not to sense moisture, the symptom is usually that programs end too early with damp clothes, or run far longer than they should. Before suspecting a sensor, check the lint filters, the load mix and the exhaust path, because each of them changes what the dryer reads and how long the air takes to do its job. If those checks change nothing, book a diagnosis.
How is an ASKO dryer meant to sense moisture?
An ASKO laundry brochure describes Sensi Dry as a function that determines the drying time automatically and stops the program when the clothes are dry. That is the behavior to compare against. A dryer with this kind of program does not run for a fixed time; it ends when its sensing says the load is dry. The result is that anything which hides dampness from the sensing, or keeps the load from drying properly, shows up as a program that stops early or never seems to finish.
The brochure does not explain how sensing works on each model, and designs vary. Your manual is the place to confirm which programs on your dryer use automatic drying and which run to a set time.
Two different complaints
Ends too early, clothes damp: the dryer decided the load was dry before it was. A mixed load is the common setup, because a few thin garments can read as dry while thick items inside the drum are still wet. Splitting loads by fabric weight is a safe adjustment that gives the program a fairer reading.
Runs too long, clothes already dry: the dryer cannot tell the load has dried, or the drying itself is slow so the end point arrives late. Lint and restricted airflow are the first suspects here. The brochure notes that lint leads to longer drying times and that the Lint Trap should be emptied after every drying program.
Why check filters before blaming the moisture sensing?
Filters and airflow change what the dryer reads and how long the air takes to dry the load, so empty the lint filter and check the exhaust path first.
The cleaning guide says to empty the lint filter after every load and to rinse it in the sink once a month, brushing it with mild detergent and letting it dry before reinstalling. The brochure describes a Multi Filter System of up to five filters, depending on the model: a mesh filter, the Lint Trap in the door, a foam filter, a front filter on condenser models and a Lint Cup on steam models. Find out which apply to your dryer and clean each one the way the manual describes. On condenser models, the cleaning guide also lists a condenser cleaning routine on a recurring schedule.
For a vented dryer, installation instructions say excess duct length and bends impede drying performance and that the dryer must exhaust outdoors. Inspect the visible duct and the outdoor opening for lint.
Residue on fabric and in the drum
A general point, not tied to an ASKO document: a film left by some fabric treatments can interfere with dampness readings in dryers that sense moisture through contact with the load. If clothes consistently end damp after you have cleaned filters and fixed the load mix, wipe the inside of the drum with a damp cloth while the dryer is off and unplugged, only where the manual permits, and try a plain load.
Room and installation conditions
Installation instructions for a vented ASKO dryer say to install it in a ventilated room at 10-25 C, to avoid a very small room because drying takes longer there, and never to block the air vents or place the dryer on long-fibre carpet. The design guide adds that a closet needs a door that is vented, louvered or left open. A dryer working against stale, cramped air will take longer to dry and can end programs in odd ways, so these conditions belong in the checklist before anyone blames a sensor.
Heat pump dryers are described in the brochure as closed systems that recirculate process air, which lets them install in confined spaces with little incoming air. If you own one, the foam filter can be washed in a washing machine without detergent or softener, according to the brochure.
What the checks tell you
| Symptom | What it can point to | What you can check |
|---|---|---|
| Ends early, thick items damp | Mixed load read as dry | Split loads by fabric weight |
| Runs long, clothes dry early | Lint or a restricted exhaust slowing drying | Clean every filter, inspect duct and outdoor opening |
| Fine on timed programs, odd on automatic ones | Sensing issue | Compare programs and note the results |
| Fine after cleaning, odd again later | Lint buildup returning | Empty the filter after every load |
| Wrong on every program with clean filters | A sensor or control fault | Record the pattern and book a diagnosis |
A timed program that dries properly proves the heat and airflow are fine and points at the sensing or the load. A timed program that also fails points at airflow or heat instead.
One run with a small, uniform load of cotton items on the automatic program makes a clean test. If it ends with everything dry, the sensing works and the earlier trouble came from the load or the filters. If it still ends damp, repeat once and then stop.
Keeping a record
Write down the program, the load, and whether the dryer ended early or ran long. Two or three loads with notes are worth more than ten restarts. Do not open the cabinet to look at a sensor, and do not run the dryer with the duct disconnected.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my dryer stop with clothes still damp?
The program may have judged the load dry from the thinner items. Sorting by fabric weight usually helps.
Does a clogged lint filter affect sensing?
It slows drying and lengthens programs, which can look like a sensing problem. Clean every filter first.
Should I use timed programs instead?
A timed program is a useful test. If it dries properly, the airflow and heat are working.
When is it time to book a visit?
When the problem repeats on every program after the filters, duct and load mix are ruled out.
