What to check before you call
Safe observations first. Stop if anything involves smoke, gas, water near electricity, or a panel you would need to remove.
06 sections
If water is leaking near an appliance and there is any chance it has reached an outlet, cord, or the base of the machine, keep away from it, turn the circuit off at a dry breaker panel, and do not run it again until the source is found. A leak that only drips from a visible hose joint is a plumbing problem to contain; a leak of unknown origin needs diagnosis before the appliance is used.
Finding water around an electrical appliance demands care straight away. A lone symptom cannot name the failed part, so start by gathering observations that are safe, easy to repeat, and valuable when an ASKO visit is booked afterward.
Ordinary care is set apart in this section from work requiring testing or disassembly. Do not override a lock, safety switch, or error message just to keep the appliance operating. Making a few notes at this point helps the diagnosis go faster and be more accurate.
Start with the simple conditions
Stay away from a wet appliance, plug, or outlet. Where a dry breaker panel can be reached safely, switch the circuit off there before going near the spill. Leave the appliance where it is and do not force panels, fittings, or controls. If a small change alters the result, run one normal cycle before drawing conclusions.
A loosely seated hose you can see may be an easy fix, but water reaching an outlet, a wiring area, or the base of the appliance is a different matter and calls for care. Ask whether it happens each time, with one load or setting, or after a period of running. That comparison is worth more than restarting repeatedly.
| Situation | Recommended step | Don’t |
|---|---|---|
| Water by an outlet | Switch the breaker off safely | Handling the plug |
| A hose dripping in view | Catch the water and keep watching | Starting another cycle |
| Source unknown | Book a diagnosis | Opening an appliance that has power |
Where does a leak near a dishwasher or washer come from?
Not always from inside the machine. The supply connection at the shut-off valve, the drain hose joint at the sink, and the door seal edge are all possible sources.
Water on the floor around a dishwasher or washer does not always come from inside the machine. The supply connection at the shut-off valve, the drain hose joint at the sink connection, and the door seal edge are all places water can escape while the appliance itself is sound. The ASKO cleaning guide suggests wiping the door edge and seal with a damp cloth, which also lets you see whether the seal is dirty or damaged.
The installation guide for one ASKO dishwasher series calls for a drip tray on the floor beneath the unit, and for a test run that checks the machine fills, drains, and that no connection leaks before it is secured. That order of work is a useful model: confirm each connection dry first, then look at the appliance.
Safe checks that protect the appliance
The use-and-care manual for your model explains its controls, where filters are reached, and care intervals. Clean only what it lists as user-serviceable, use the products it recommends, and return every removable part to its designed seat.
Prior to any further cycle, remove obstructions, cut an unusually heavy load, and check that airflow, the water supply, and door clearance are not restricted. Steer clear of repeated resets, which can conceal an intermittent fault and leave water, heat, or pressure where it shouldn’t be.
- Record any displayed message or error code before clearing it away.
- Examine exposed hoses, vents, seals, and plugs without shifting electrical connections.
- Conduct a single controlled test in place of several in a row.
Safe for owners
- Cut power in a safe way
- Keep the water contained
- Take a photo of the visible source
Technician only
- Touching wet controls
- Running it during a leak
- Opening electrical areas
Do ASKO dishwashers have leak protection?
Some ASKO dishwashers carry a family of protections the maker calls Aqua Safe. One international model sheet describes leak recognition in the motor compartment, protection that watches for leaks while the machine is off, a self-cleaning drain pump called Anti Block, and an anti-siphon feature that stops water entering or leaving by itself. Not every model has all of these, so check your own manual.
These features reduce risk; they do not make a leaking machine safe to keep using. If a protection feature stops the machine, treat that as information about where the water is, not as a fault to bypass.
One specific case in the cleaning guide
The guide says that if the drain pump runs continuously, you should turn power and water off to the unit and contact service. That wording fits any situation where the machine keeps moving water with no cycle in progress.
Know when the symptom needs diagnosis
If the basic checks do not alter the symptom, stop where owner-serviceable work ends. Gas connections, control boards, internal wiring, pumps, motors, refrigerant lines, and heating circuits need proper test equipment and a technician who can confirm the repair is safe.
Line up service promptly if performance is worsening, water leaks near electrical parts, a breaker trips, the unit smells hot or burnt, a new grinding noise begins, or a normal cycle will not complete. Do not keep operating anything that gives a safety warning.
What to tell the technician
Hand the technician the model number, exactly what the problem is, the day it began, the settings selected, and what the safe checks above turned up. A photo of a code or a brief description of a sound is useful as well, but do not remove a cover to capture either.
Careful observation is no substitute for repair, though it is the best opening move. Address the simple conditions, preserve any useful error information, and pass sealed-system, gas, electrical, and internal mechanical repairs on to a qualified ASKO technician.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to unplug a leaking appliance?
Not if the floor, plug, or outlet is wet. Turn off the circuit at a dry breaker panel first, then wait for the area to be dry before anyone touches the cord. If you cannot reach the panel safely, keep everyone away and call an electrician or emergency services.
Should I shut off the water supply to a leaking dishwasher or washer?
Closing the supply valve limits how much water can escape, but only reach for it if you can do so without standing in water or near wet electrical parts. Power comes first.
Can a small leak wait until I have time to deal with it?
A small leak can still reach wiring or damage the floor underneath over time. Stop using the appliance, dry the area, and have the source diagnosed before running another cycle.

Official manuals and support notes are available on ASKO Support.
Prior to ordering parts, put the full model number on paper. Revisions to boards and sensors can alter which part number is the right one.
Power reset one time and a temporary fault may clear, but the same code returning repeatedly usually means a physical cause remains.
Stay on top of vents and filters between visits; limited airflow frequently looks like an electrical or sensor problem.
Whenever water, a burnt odor, or sparks are involved, the appliance should be taken out of use and examined by a professional.
